5/17/2008-0830 hrs.- FIRST ANNUAL HIGHRISE STAIR CLIMB - STEGER HIGHRISE - 15 N.MAIN STREET
On Saturday May 17th 2008, at 0830 hours, Dunkirk Firefighters participated in the first annual Highrise Stair Climb. Entree fees for this event were:
- $10 for a firefighter to walk up the first staircase, 11 floors across the 11th floor, and back down the second staircase.
- $15 for a firefighter to walk up the first staircase, 11 floors then ride down the elevator.
- $20 for a firefighter to ride the elevator both up and down.
Many of the Dunkirk Firefighters have been preparing for this event, as they competed for the best time as each participant was timed from beginning to end. There shall be no running allowed, and each participant must touch every step.

The City of Dunkirk Fire Department's 1st annual Highrise Stair Climb was a quite a success as 25 people participated in the event. A total of $ 315 of entry fees was raised for the Daniel S. Anson Scholarship Fund. There were a total of 12,900 steps taken, and that is the equivalent of 7.75 miles walked.
