DANIEL F ANSON MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP FUND

The Dunkirk Professional Firefighters Assocation is continuing to carry on a long standing tradition in memory of our Firefighter Daniel F. Anson who was killed in the line of duty in 1979 at a garage fire located on Central Avenue. The IAFF Local 616 awards a scholarship to a college bound senior from the Dunkirk High School. This year, members of Local 616 will be selling 50/50 Tickets to help fund the scholarship. 8/22/2009 - WRECK AND ROLL #2 BOATS, BLUES, AND BBQ FESTIVAL DONATES ALL PROCEEDS TO THE DANIEL F. ANSON SCHOLARSHIP. The Wreck and Roll #2 Boats, Blues, and BBQ Festival was held on the waterfront with all of the proceeds to be donated to the Daniel F. Anson Scholarship Fund. Members of Local 616 would like to thank everybody that made this event a success. Members of 616 served drinks at the for the event as "Celebrity Bartenders" and Union President Michael Edwards was a judge for the BBQ and Rib Cookoff. Members and wives participated in the 1st Annual Dunkirk's Waterfront Tug of War Contest. 12/18/2008 - THE DUNKIRK PROFESSIONAL FIREFIGHTERS ASSOCATION AWARDED THE ANNUAL DANIEL F. ANSON SCHOLARSHIP TO TESS COUGHLIN IN JUNE OF 2008. TESS GRADUATED FROM DUNKIRK HIGH SCHOOL IN 2008, AND IS CURRENTLY A FRESHMAN AT THE UNIVERSITY OF MISSOURI. TESS IS PICTURED BELOW WITH HER STEP FATHER CAPTAIN ALLEN LOEB IN FRONT OF THE ANSON MONUMENT LOCATED IN MEMORIAL PARK. MEMBERS OF LOCAL 616 WISH TESS THE BEST OF LUCK IN HER FUTURE ENDEAVORS.
