The City of Dunkirk Fire Department's I.A.F.F. Local 616 consists of 26 uniformed firefighters serving the City of Dunkirk, a city with a population of approximately 14,000 on the shore of Lake Erie in Western New York. 
Three Engines, One Ladder, and a Rescue are manned at all times by 5 firefighters, including a captain or lieutenant out of 3 stations.  All members are certified New York State Firefighters and are Certified Emergency Medical Technicians. 
The fire department is also very active in Water Rescue/Dive Training.  Combined with members of the Dunkirk Police Department, The Dunkirk Fire Department Dive Team is the primary response to emergencies in Lake Erie off of City Shores.  The dive team has a former Coast Guard Zodiac boat in the water during boating season.  The Water Rescue team has also been fortunate in past seasons to have access to donated personal watercrafts seasonally compliments of Appolson’s Performance of Hamburg, NY.  
Members of 616 are very active in training, and are responsible for the annual fire inspections in the City of Dunkirk.  The Dunkirk Fire Department operates on radio frequency 46.12.
